Happy Canada Day!

Before the long weekend, I wish everyone in Rideau-Jock Ward a Happy Canada Day! While we celebrate 157 years as a country, it is important to recognize our historic villages that will also celebrate significant milestones – most of them older than Canada.

  • Ashton (c.1851) celebrates 173 years as a community

  • Burritts Rapids (c.1793) celebrates 231 years as a community

  • Fallowfield (c.1872) celebrates 152 years as a community

  • Kars (c.1822) celebrates 202 years as a community

  • Manotick (c.1859) celebrates 165 years as a community

  • Munster (c.1870) celebrates 154 years as a community

  • North Gower (c.1825) celebrates 199 years as a community

  • Richmond (c.1818) celebrates 206 years as a community

Unique in their own ways, these beautiful villages make our southwestern corner of Ottawa such a special place to live. Many villages will be hosting community Canada Day celebrations throughout the long weekend for everyone to enjoy.

Please see below for some important reminders for the Canada Day holiday on Monday, July 1st:

Recreation

  • Most community centres and recreation facilities will be closed, with a limited number of indoor pools, arenas, and recreation and fitness centres open and operating on a modified schedule. Please check the facility pages for details. Please note that some regular public swims may be cancelled on short notice due to a shortage of lifeguards. It is recommended you confirm by checking with the facility before leaving home.

  • Outdoor pools, splash pads and wading pools will be open. Beaches will be open with lifeguards on duty. Hours, details and locations are available at Outdoor swim and splash.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable and sunny Canada Day long weekend with family, friends, and neighbours.

Happy 157th, Canada!
