Annual Richmond Volunteer Firefighter Chicken BBQ

The Richmond Firefighter association will again be hosting their annual Firefighter Chicken BBQ on Saturday June 15th at the Dining Hall, 6107 Perth Street. Pickup will be from 2-6 pm.

Any money made will go back into Richmond and Munster.

Manotick Round the Islands Paddle

Father’s Weekend family fun event paddling on the Rideau Canal and the back channel around Long and Nicolls Islands.

If you own a canoe, kayak or paddleboard, this 10 km. adventure is for you, along with family and friends.

  • Event starts and ends at the boat launch, next to Manotick Public Pool and Library.

  • The paddle is clockwise around Long & Nicolls Islands

  • Two portages around the dams

Entry fee:

  • $20 per person or $35 per canoe/kayak/paddleboard.

  • Members of OMCKRA: $12 per person or $20 per canoe/kayak/paddleboard.

Medals awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, in solo and pairs, plus random dissimilitudes.

Judging of the latter may be sketchy and prejudicial.

Once expenses are covered, all fees will go into prizes: 692 Coffee Shop Gift Certificates

Entries limited to the first 50, or so.

On June 10th, the Richmond Village Association launched an online survey for residents. The survey covers such topics as roads, traffic, pedestrian safety; youth and senior programming; recreation infrastructure; public transit; and, RVA community events. Residents of Richmond are invited to visit https://richmondvillage.ca/ to fill it out. The results will be shared with residents in the Fall and with Municipal representatives.

Goulbourn Museum: Digitization Station on Doors Open Weekend

Do you have a box of old family photos or delicate handwritten letters you’re trying your best to safeguard for the next generation? The Goulbourn Museum can help!

During the Doors Open weekend on June 1st and 2nd, the Museum will be launching a new digitization station in its History Centre. Visit and learn how to conserve your family history and find out what’s available for you at the Museum to digitize and preserve your personal collections.

The Museum’s “Archiving Goulbourn” project is an effort to digitize local heritage and make it publicly accessible for family historians and researchers. The process will also help the Museum expand its knowledge of local history.

Visitors can learn more about the new digitization station on Saturday, June 1st and Sunday, June 2nd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event

The City of Ottawa is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event on Saturday, June 1 at the Trail Road Waste Facility (4475 Trail Road). Residents are welcome to bring their hazardous materials to the event between 8 am and 4 pm.   

Of course, you don’t have to wait; the City’s Waste Explorer points to retailers where residents can return many items daily!

Please note that electronic waste is not accepted at Household Hazardous Waste drop-off events hosted by the City. Residents can bring electronic waste to retailers by checking Ottawa.ca/WasteExplorer. They can also attend electronic waste drop-off events hosted by Junk That Funk or bring electronic waste to the Trail Road Landfill Facility at no cost.

Used Book Sale Fundraiser hosted by Kars on the Rideau Public School

Kars on the Rideau Public School is accepting book donations for their used book sale fundraiser.

Donations: Used children and adult books (fiction or nonfiction), as well as sheet music, will be accepted for the book sale. Donations can be dropped off at the school lobby from April 22nd to May 27th anytime from 8:00am-3:00pm.

Date/time: The book sale will be open to the public during the following times:

  • Friday, May 31st 3:00pm-7:00pm

  • Saturday, June 01st 9:00am-1:00pm

Location: Kars on the Rideau Public School - 6680 Dorack Drive

Details: Donations are accepted, but textbooks or musty books cannot be accepted. All the money raised from the book sale will fund programs for children at the school.

Family Craft Day

The Goulbourn Museum is offering spring-themed crafts and activities at this month’s Family Craft Day! Kids will make butterflies, flowers and birds at this event which is geared towards children ages 4-11.

Yoga in the Mill: Introduction Session

Join Watson’s Mill as they usher in another Summer of Yoga in the Mill! This 60-minute, beginner friendly, hatha yoga class will take place on the second floor of Watson’s Mill. Registration is encouraged, but not required.
