From the desk of Councillor David Brown

Living Snow Fence Pilot Program
This Wednesday, City Council unanimously passed a motion that I put forward to pilot a Living Snow Fence Program. By taking advantage of vegetation, we can use trees and shrubs that decrease wind speed and contain drifting snow from creating hazardous wintertime road conditions.

Ward Updates

Summer Operational Update
Parks Maintenance employees are responsible for 3,065 hectares of green space across the city. This vast geography is divided into 286 maintenance beats. The beats cover parks and roadsides and are on various cycle lengths based on the area’s use and the City’s maintenance quality standards. Most are maintained on a weekly and biweekly basis.

The weather has presented challenges to accomplishing the work that needs to be done. The grass grows quickly and some beats are large than others. However, the crews are working hard to catch-up and expect to finish shortly.

If you notice an area that needs attention, send a service request online or by emailing or calling 3-1-1. This is triaged to the right personnel in Parks Maintenance and is the fastest way to help get the job done.
