Newsletter May 30

From the desk of Councillor David Brown

Change in Frequency of Newsletter Distribution
This notice serves to inform you that beginning next week, there will be a modification to when my newsletters are distributed.

During the summer months, both events and regular newsletters will now be distributed on a biweekly rotating schedule, rather than weekly. This means residents can anticipate receiving an events newsletter one week, followed by a regular newsletter the next, and so on.

Ward Updates

2024 Wild Parsnip Strategy Update
The 2024 Wild Parsnip Program is now underway. City crews and contractors will be applying necessary herbicides to highly infested areas along rural roadsides and pathways while ensuring that environmentally sensitive areas and public safety are not adversely impacted. Over 200 locations of parkland and approximately 1200 lane kilometers of roadsides/pathways will be treated this year.

As of January 1, 2015, Wild Parsnip was identified as a noxious weed by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). Toxic sap found in Wild Parsnip leaves, stems, and flowers can cause severe skin rashes and makes skin hypersensitive to sunlight.

Residents can report wild parsnip, poison ivy or giant hogweed by submitting a request online here

Summer Operational Update
With the warmer weather, the City's Roads and Parking Services department is now redirecting their operations. This work includes:

  • Maintaining gravel roads

  • Cutting roadside grass in rural areas where there are ditches

  • Cleaning rural ditches

  • Performing asphalt repairs and filling potholes

  • Maintaining City-owned culverts

  • and more

If you have any concerns, please report them directly to the City by filing an online report with 3-1-1 here
