Last week, I welcomed Lisa Thompson, Ontario Minister of Rural Affairs and MPP for Huron-Bruce, to my office in North Gower. Raised on a farm and being in office since 2011, she understands the challenges of living rural in Ontario.

Ward Updates

Discussions with David Session - July 30th in Munster
Join my team and me on Tuesday, July 30th at the Munster Community Centre (58 Dogwood Drive) from 9:00am to 7:00pm. 

Feel free to drop in to ask questions, share comments or just to chat. 

Hwy 417 Closure until Monday morning
Highway 417 will be fully closed in both directions between Carling Avenue and Metcalfe Street from 8:00pm on Thursday, July 25th until 6:00am on Monday, July 29th for the replacement of the Preston Street overpass. 

Preston Street between St. Anthony Street and Young Street will also be closed until Tuesday, August 6th. 

The MTO has set up a live video feed of this operation for public viewing. You can access the livestream through YouTube here

Speed Limits Raised on Hwy 416
The speed limit on Highway 416 has increased by 10km/h. Approximately, 70 kilometers of Highway 416 between Highway 401 and Ottawa, now have a permanent speed limit of 110 km/h. Read more here

Review of Sewer Use By-law
The City of Ottawa is conducting a review of the Sewer Use (By-law No. 2003-514), which regulates wastewater discharges to the sewer system. 

Residents can provide feedback by completing an online survey here. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes and will remain open until September 6, 2024.

Two New Speed Cameras Coming to Ward 21
Over the next few weeks, two new speed cameras will be installed at two locations in the ward:

  • Ottawa Street across from South Carleton High School

  • Bridge Street in front of Manotick Public School

Installation work is expected to be completed by the Fall. Locations are solely determined through speed data collected by City staff. 

Flags in North Gower lowered to half-mast in memory of William (Bill) Cook
The flags at the North Gower Client Service Centre were lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, July 13th in honour of the late William (Bill) Cook, who passed away on Thursday, June 27.

Bill Cook was a councillor for the Village of Richmond from 1969 to 1971. As a councillor, he was a member of the Management and Finance Committee and the Lands, Parks and Recreation Committee. He was also a well-known volunteer and community leader, lover of sports and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Construction Updates

Notice of Road Closure: Franktown Rd (Dwyer Hill Rd-Skeel Crt)
Franktown Road from Dwyer Hill Road to Skeel Court on Monday, July 29th until Friday, August 9th for a culvert replacement. Vehicles are encouraged to detour on Purdy Road for the duration of the work. 

Perth/Meynell Construction Update from Caivan
Caivan has prepared an update for the ongoing Richmond roundabout construction at Perth Street and Meynell Road. Please read the details here

Road Resurfacing & Construction Noise
Below is a updated list of roads that will be resurfaced with respective timelines for the completion of the work. There may be some nighttime construction noise associated with this work from the hours of 10:00pm to 7:00am.

Further updates will be provided as necessary about these projects and other planned road work.

  • Conley Road from Franktown Road to Mansfield Road

  • Fallowfield Road from Eagleson Road to Old Richmond Road 

  • Fallowfield Road from Munster Road to Huntley Road 

    • Fallowfield Road is expected to be open to traffic again by next week. 

  • Franktown Road/Perth Street from Munster Road to Meynell Road 

  • Flewellyn Road from Eagleson Road to Huntley Road 

  • Pierce Road from McCordick Road to Malakoff Road (Project to start in Fall 2024)

  • Prince of Wales Drive from Longfield Drive to Barnsdale Road (2024 start date to be determined)

  • Roger Stevens Drive from Dwyer Hill Road to Malakoff Road 

  • Roger Stevens Drive from Malakoff Road to McCordick Road 

Other Construction

In addition to roads closed for resurfacing work, there are other ongoing construction projects that may have local impacts, including closures and lane reductions.

  • Multiple Roads on Long Island - Manotick Watermain Link (Phase 2)

    • As part of the Manotick Watermain Link (Phase 2) project, Long Island Road from West Avenue to Sunrise Avenue will be closed from 6 pm Friday, July 12th to 6:00am Monday, July 15th.

  • Ottawa Street West - Storm sewer and utility work

  • Eagleson Road (Northbound from Perth / Old Richmond to Fallowfield) - Unplanned Forcemain Construction
