Munster Watermain Swabbing - Latest Information

OCT 3 UPDATE

City staff have provided an updated work schedule for watermain swabbing in Munster. This latest update includes information for the streets where activities will be conducted for the contingency date of October 7th.

SEPT 27 UPDATE

Residents have expressed a number of concerns regarding information from the City, my office, and from workers on-site regarding the ongoing swabbing activities. I too have been disappointed by the information that has been communicated and have been working to get better information for the community.

I have been engaged with staff at the highest management levels to express my frustration that residents in Munster have not received clear, consistent, and accurate information. Today (September 27th), staff provided better information, which I am pleased to share below. Staff have also committed to producing a “one-stop-shop” webpage for future communication when swabbing events occur to reduce miscommunication and provide clear and predictable information to residents.

Below is the latest information that my office has received. As we receive new information, we will update this page.

Residents will still continue receiving their 24 hour notifications from the City prior to work proceeding on their streets.

Some residents have noticed that water outages or other issues with water have occurred on days that did not correspond with when work was being done on their streets. Staff have clarified that, given the configuration of pipes in Munster and issues that can arise due to the fluid nature of the work being undertaken, impacts of work can sometimes extend beyond streets that are being directly impacted by as per the work plan. For instance, because supply is limited during swabbing operations, water may be discoloured while swabbing neighbouring streets.

This is why the original letter sent from the City asked all residents to not draw water between 8:30am-6pm on September 23rd, September 25th, September 27th, October 2nd, and October 4th. October 8th remains a contingency day. Residents are still being asked to not draw water for the remaining days of the work. Staff have recognized that this was not made sufficiently clear in the communications provided and have committed to an improved approach to communications moving forward.

Residents who have additional questions are encouraged to contact the project coordinator for more information:
