Update on truck traffic in Manotick

As my office continues to prioritize the issue of truck traffic in Manotick, I was pleased to host a meeting between City staff responsible for the City's truck route network and folks from the Manotick Village Community Association. We had a productive discussion based on some new data which the City collected on the comparative truck traffic on Vimy Bridge and Bridge Street and the MVCA and I spoke with one voice about the pressing need to get trucks out of the core of Manotick once and for all. I hope to have more information on my progress on this file soon; in the meantime, check out this infographic produced by my office which highlights the comparative truck volumes on Vimy and Bridge Street:

On Monday morning, Councillor Darouze, myself and Rideau Valley Conservation Authority board member, Dan Cooper, went for a morning walking tour at the Baxter Conservation Area to see the new accessory boardwalk that is almost complete. This boardwalk will allow people with disabilities and their equipment to access the wetlands and be closer to nature without difficulty! What a wonderful project and asset to our community.

On Tuesday evening, we held our quarterly Ward Council meeting where leaders of various community organizations gathered to share their latest updates and propose solutions to address pressing concerns within our communities.

And today it was a pleasure to host another field trip to City Hall! The students had lots of great questions and I had a great time showing off Council Chambers and other sites in the heart of our City to a great group of smart, young citizens! If you're a teacher or administrator and would like to arrange a class visit to City Hall, please email my office at ward21@ottawa.ca to set up a tour.

Ward Updates

Roles & Responsibilities: Municipal Drinking Water
Do you have questions about the various roles and responsibilities of the City and other levels of government with respect to municipal drinking water? Do you have concerns regarding localized private well issues in Richmond? Read this memo to learn more.

Speed limit change: Century Road East
Following requests made by residents and my office, we have learned that Century Road East will be reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h from Rideau Valley Drive / Manotick Main until First Line Road. These slower speeds will help better accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles turning out of or into the Mahogany Community. The speed limit change is likely to take effect next Spring.

Blasting to occur in Southwest Richmond
To facilitate future phases of the Mattamy development in Richmond, blasting will be occurring South of Ottawa Street. Residents may expect to hear additional noise, and residents within 75 meters of where the blasting is scheduled to occur will have received a letter from Blastek Engineering Group providing instructions for complementary pre-blast inspections. Our office has not been provided with a timeline for when the blasting is scheduled to occur, but it will not occur prior to the inspection deadline of October 27. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact Blastek.

Peak Leaf and Yard Waste Season
It’s officially peak leaf and yard waste season! Please note that waste collection operators may take longer than usual to collect yard waste set out at the curb. For the next few weeks, operators have until 8 pm to pick up separately set out leaf and yard waste at the curb. Learn more

Construction Updates

Meynell/Perth Roundabout
Crews have been onsite to begin construction work, including underground electrical and drainage work. I share the community's frustrations with delays and will be providing updated information regarding the project schedule in the coming days.

Road Closures

Fourth Line from Pollock to Century Road West is closed due to excavation and box culvert replacement activities. Work on Fourth Line is ongoing but delays were encountered due to unforeseen circumstances outside the City’s control, including significant vandalism of equipment on site. Work has resumed and is expected to be completed before the end of November.

Phelan Road West from Third Line Road South to Prince of Wales Drive will be closed for culvert replacement until October 30.

Brownlee Road from Shea Road to Huntley Road is closed for culvert replacement until November 15.
