From the desk of Councillor David Brown

A busy week at Council
This week City Council had a busy agenda where we discussed a number of important items including a new Development Charge by-law, a motion that I advanced that would see changes to the VUT for certain rural properties, and the passing of former Councillor Diane Deans.

Ward Updates

Public Information Session: Village of Richmond Forcemain Twinning
The Village of Richmond Forcemain twinning project will require additional, unplanned construction in 2024. A public information session will be taking place on Wednesday, May 22 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church to discuss this. Doors open at 7 pm and the presentation will start at 7:15 pm.

City staff will provide an update on the 2024 construction plan for Phase 2 of the project and on the additional work scheduled for this coming construction season. Learn more

Update: Construction and Traffic in Richmond
Many residents in Richmond have reached out to me to express concerns regarding traffic issues and community access, particularly in the Fox Run community. As a Richmond resident and someone who goes through the intersection of Perth and Meynell 4 times a day to attend to farm chores, I share in the community’s frustration with the delays that have been experienced, particularly at peak hours.

I wanted to provide a quick note on what is going on and what my office and I are doing to address it. Learn more

Happy Victoria Day! Please note that our office will be closed on May 20th and there are some changes to City services. Learn more

Previous updates

Last week, City staff held a meeting in Richmond to discuss proposed changes to how stormwater rates are calculated. As I have mentioned before, I am vehemently opposed to what staff are proposing. Over 200 residents came out to share their thoughts on the proposal and many spoke strongly in opposition to the City trying to extract more money from rural residents.

Thank you to everyone who came out and had their voices heard. If you haven’t already, please make sure you fill out the water rate structure review survey: Water rate structure review | Engage Ottawa

Yesterday, I had a great time as a judge for this year's Invention Convention and Science Fair at St. Philip’s Elementary School! It is always inspiring to see so many smart students’ innovations, creations, and discoveries; thanks for having me!
