Keeping Roads Clean and Safe
Although it might not feel like it, we are quickly approaching warmer weather in Ottawa. The City prepares for this seasonal transition through significant operations, most notably including street sweeping, filling potholes, and road safety measures.
Ward Updates
Water Meter Replacements
The City will replace several hundred small water meters in our ward - mostly in Munster, Richmond, and Manotick. Starting this month, properties with small water meters past their useful life may receive, or may have already received, a notification by mail containing information to book your appointment within 3 months for a replacement.
My office was contacted by several residents that received letters in the mail from “Neptune Technology Group” asking if they were legitimate. We can confirm that these are legitimate and City-sponsored letters.
Residents are encouraged to look out for a letter in the mail and visit www.watermeterappt.com to book an appointment. If you do not receive a letter, don’t worry: it means that your meter is not yet due for replacement.
Goulbourn Municipal Building: Police Presence & Demolition
Please note that over the next few weeks, residents may see an increased police presence in and around the Goulbourn Municipal Building at 2135 Huntley Road. Police will be using the building for planned exercises prior to its demolition. Demolition of the building is slated to begin in mid-April.
I am disappointed that the building will be demolished, given its history for our communities, utility to groups like the Goulbourn Lawn Bowlers’, and the fact the building hosted a ward office that was an important touchpoint for residents in neighbouring communities. Unfortunately, the building has reached its end-of-life, the costs of maintaining it were becoming excessive, and there was no budget for necessary refurbishments. As a result, the building will be demolished. Long term, the City is likely to expand the neighbouring public works yard on Huntley.
St. Leonard School (Manotick) to receive trees from the City of Ottawa
As part of the upcoming planting season this spring, the Forestry department will install six trees on the grounds of St. Leonard School in Manotick as part of the City’s Schoolyard Tree Planting Grant Program.

Temporary Traffic Calming Measures
Flexible stakes, signs, pavement markings, and speed display boards are all tools that are used to deter speeding in our communities. Many of these measures will be reinstalled by City crews over the coming weeks to be used in the warmer months of summer.
If you are concerned about speeding in a particular area, it is encouraged that you call 3-1-1 or email 311@ottawa.ca to have the area considered for temporary traffic calming measures. You are also encouraged to file a non-emergency police report with the OPS here.
