Information Regarding Well Water in Richmond
On August 1st, CTV News Ottawa published a story regarding the status of damaged wells on Royal York Street in Richmond. The story contained incorrect information which City staff have addressed in a statement which can be read here. I have also provided a statement on the matter, which can be read here.
Increased Wild Parsnip Presence
The City is aware of increased prevalence of wild parsnip throughout the Ward this year. I have communicated with the General Manager of Public Works about my concerns with the presence of these noxious weeds throughout our communities and am working on securing more resources for staff to address this safety issue more proactively in years to come. Learn more about the City's current strategy or report the presence of wild parsnip and other noxious weeds.
Ward Updates
Introducing the Rural Business Toolkit
The Rural Business Toolkit is specifically designed to support businesses in Ottawa's rural areas. This comprehensive toolkit is aimed at assisting existing and potential entrepreneurs, as well as business owner/operators, in gaining awareness and direction on programming that caters to their diverse needs and interests. Please take a moment to explore the toolkit and feel free to share this resource with fellow entrepreneurs and business professionals in your network.
Centennial Park Enhancement Project
Construction has begun on the Centennial Park Enhancement Project! The project, which is expected to be completed this year, will rehabilitate and expand venues at Centennial Park. The work includes constructing a new skateboard park, replacing the boards on the outdoor rink, building two basketball courts, improving landscaping and signage, and increasing accessibility by upgrading the park furniture. Follow the MCPRA on Facebook to stay up to date on the project.
Anxiety & Stress Program for Teens
The Y Mind program is a free 7-week program that offers support for those who are experiencing mild to moderate anxiety or stress. Participants learn evidence-based coping skills based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, self-compassion, and connect with peers who are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings. More information can be found at: Mental Wellness Programs | YMCA of the National Capital Region
Community Information Session - 5646-5650 Manotick Main
On July 31st, my office hosted a community information session for residents of Manotick regarding the proposed commercial development at 5646-5650 Manotick Main (see images below). Over 50 people attended to share their thoughts, concerns, and questions with representatives of the developer. To learn more about the proposed development or to submit comments to City staff, click here. Please note that residents who would like their comments to be part of the public record must submit them prior to end of day on August 3rd. Comments will still be accepted afterwards, though they will not be part of the public record.
Construction Updates
Road Closures
Shea Road Southbound, from Fernbank to Flewellyn, will be extended until the end of day Tuesday, August 15.
Eagleson Road Northbound, from Perth Street to Fallowfield, until August 25, 2023.
Fourth Line Road, from Pollock to Century Roard West. Construction is expected to begin in September and work is estimated to take roughly 10 weeks.
Fixing the Streetlights in Munster
Many residents in Munster have long had to contend with streetlights that have been out. More than an inconvenience, my view is that this can be a safety issue. My office has been working with City staff to address this, and I am pleased to say that staff have identified the issue and contractors will begin repairs on August 14th that will fix the issue throughout Munster. The work involves repairs to underground utilities; residents on or driving through Owlshead or Butterfield may notice work ongoing in the area, including drilling.
