Intro to Modern Calligraphy (3 Sessions)

  • Goulbourn Museum 2064 Huntley Road Ottawa, ON, K2S 1B8 Canada (map)

Wednesday, October 9th, 16th and 23rd from 7-9 p.m.

Join us for three sessions of learning modern calligraphy in a fun and sharing atmosphere. We will explore contemporary lettering using traditional pen and inks. The three sessions will be Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm. Session 1, October 9, will be an introduction to pen and ink using lower case or miniscule letters. October 16 will be session 2 learning the upper case or majuscule letters. We will finish on October 23, putting together what we have learnt into words, sentences with fun simple projects in time for the holiday season.

Cost for this beginner-level workshop is $135 for all three sessions and includes all supplies as well as light refreshments. Program is designed for ages 16+.

Your calligraphy instructor will be Richard Draffin, a local Kanata scribe with over 40 years experience in calligraphy.  Presently, he does calligraphy for the federal Government as well as teaching and working on his own lettering.  A long-time volunteer at Goulbourn Museum, he has a passion for sharing his craft with others.
